Port of Dakar

Port of Dakar: Development of the Port of Dakar is commonly considered one of the most important projects in West Africa and it is a first tier New Economic Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) project.   USTDA has supported development of the Port of Dakar in the past with a feasibility study for the installation of a grain terminal and has highlighted the Port of Dakar at two USTDA-sponsored conferences. Developers of the port of Dakar are currently seeking financial partners for the project’s realization.

Port of Bargny: Development of the Port at Bargny has become an increasingly important development priority of Senegal as a new major iron ore project is being developed in the country. The Port of Dakar does not possess the capacity to receive and process the amount of heavy minerals associated with the new mining operation, thus a new port complex will be needed for this purpose. A new port complex at Bargny would also help to alleviate the already over-crowded Port of Dakar.  The Government of Senegal has created a project development entity for the overall project called Miferso.
