China and the U.S. have the world’s largest cable television systems. China’s cable industry serves about 80 million homes. Although they have the largest viewer group, cable penetration in Chinese homes is less than 20% as compared to the U.S. at more than 70%. The Chinese are eager to upgrade exisiting systems and provide penetration in rural areas.
This briefing was part of an orientation visit organized by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency to help U.S. suppliers and consultants in the cable industry provide their products and services to the Chinese government and cable operators.
