Based on its international treaty obligations with the International Maritime Organization, the Brazilian government must ensure that all major port authorities in Brazil as well as shipping lines comply with the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Code.
Brazil has started many of the required steps such as designating the responsible certifying authority, and developing port security plans. Critical steps still remain such training, incident simulation, and the final approval of port facility security plans.
Port security is critical to secure Brazil’s record exports. This orientation visit is designed to help Brazil officials learn about how U.S. ports are implementing security requirements, and to meet product and service providers that can help Brazil comply efficiently and cost effectively with required standards. The delegation will be taking a look at a broad range of physical security technology, incident response training and simulation, U.S.-based process and procedures that go beyond ISPS requirements.
The Business Briefing will be an opportunity for U.S. Companies to meet with high level delegates and hear from them about the implementation of ISPS Code in Brazil and their needs. The presentations will be followed by optional one-on-one meetings with the delegates.
